Silver Young Ambassador Conference

On Wednesday 24th March 2010 the inaugural ‘Sir John Hunt Silver Young Ambassador Conference’ took place at the Devonshire Health & Racquet Club in Plymouth.

The Young Ambassadors programme is a national structure that is provided to sports partnerships to develop talented sports leaders. The Sir John Hunt Partnership has been running the programme with Platinum and Gold Ambassador and has now elected 14 Silver Ambassadors who will work across the partnership schools.

The first part of the conference was dedicated to students getting to know each other and developing leadership skills through participating in a series of problem solving and physical challenges. The conference’s second session was run entirely by the Platinum and Gold Ambassadors, who provided presentations on what is expected of the Silver Ambassadors and setting out their roles, responsibilities and targets back in their own schools.

Silver Ambassadors left the conference with a clear picture of how they can use their school leadership academies to help promote the London 2012 Olympics and promote physical education and school sport.

The Ambassadors are now expected to achieve the following targets by the end of the academic year.

1. Arrange a meeting with Head Teachers to explain the role of YA and LA

2. Produce an Olympic & Paralympics countdown display

3. Organise 3 Intra House/Tutor competitions to targeted groups of students

4. Organise 3 NGB Leadership Awards

5. Organise & run an activity at the partnerships ‘Alternative Olympics’ in June
