A very successful event with a record number of primary schools competing to get into the Friday Finals, 23 in total entered the festival!
On day one we had three mini leagues and on the second we had two larger leagues, all schools were challenging for the two top spot within their leagues for a place in the Friday Finals.
The competition within the leagues was intense and all schools played brilliantly, the girls in each team were very good and added a greater depth to the competition. It was obvious that all schools had talented players and that coaching in schools was paying off!
I would like to say a BIG well done to the following schools for getting into the Friday Finals; College Road, Ernesettle, Victoria Road, St Joseph’s, Riverside, Marlborough, Austin Farm, St Budeaux, Beechwood and Compton.
The Friday again had two leagues with the top two teams from each league going through to play for first, second, third and fourth place.
Again, the leagues where intense and all school were playing to high standards. Eventually, the 4 teams that went through played some outstanding football.
Playing for 3rd and 4th positions were St Joseph’s versus St Budeaux, after a great match the victors were St Joseph’s.
The final between Austin Farm and Ernesettle was an intense affair. Austin Farm taking a 4 – 0 lead into half time! The Ernesettle team talk obviously did the job and they managed to score in the dying minutes to secure a 4:4 draw, extra time was needed!
After an intense few minutes a ‘golden goal’ was scored; Ernesettle winning after scoring a fantastic goal. Congratulations to them!
Congratulations to all teams that took part in the Football Festival, hopefully next years event will be bigger and better!
