Please find below the long awaited information relating to the Schools Challenge event which is to be held on 29th May 2010 starting at 15.00. We have moved the event to the Saturday to allow for increased numbers and to keep the event safer in terms of supervision of pupils.
This year we are supporting Simon Adams (previous Head of PE at Parkside and who has more recently worked with Plymouth Tuition Service and as the Head of the Mannamead Centre) who has recently been diagnosed Motor Neurone Disease. His prognosis is not good, 50% of sufferers die within 14 months of diagnosis and Simon has the most vigorous form of the disease called Progressive Bulbar Palsy (PBP). Simon would like to spend his remaining time raising awareness and supporting research into the disease. All schools that enter the event will be offered an assembly by Simon and a DVD (created by Simon especially for this event), he will also endeavour to come to the school afterwards to collect the money and distribute the half marathon medals (this is obviously dependent upon his health). This year we are asking schools to give a minimum of 50% of their sponsorship to the Motor Neurone Disease Association.
I know you would all like to wish Simon well and the best thing you can do to support him is to mobilise your students!
We are anticipating a massive response from schools this year so please ensure the application pack is completed and returned no later than the 31st January 2010. Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis so don’t leave it to the deadline to apply.
For more information on Motor Neurone disease please see;www.mndassociation.org .
For those schools who would like to do more to support Simon in his effort to raise a £1,000,000 for the charity please contact him directly on 0788447827 or by email adamski@blueyonder.co.uk alternatively the charity have a dedicated person who supports fundraising Sarah Hampton; sarah.hampton@mndassociation.org.
