The School Sports Partnership programme is a national initiative involving every school in the country. The aim of the programme is to encourage all schools to ensure that every pupil within their school is participating in 2 hours of High Quality PE every week. The programme is also working towards a 5 hour offer, encouraging 2 hours of PE within curriculum and 3 hours beyond the school day and within the community.
To support the 5 hour offer the Sir John Hunt School Sport Partnership (SSP) devolves a substantial DSCF grant to 7 secondary schools and 2 Further Education Colleges to pay for the release of a member of their PE Departments for 2 days a week. These members of staff are referred to as School Sport Coordinators (SSCos) and Further Education Sports Coordinators (FESCos). The partnership also devolves 12 days of supply cover each year to the 40 primary / special school PE Coordinators, referred to as Primary Link Teachers (PLTS), to support the work within schools. An diagram of how the schools are grouped together can be found on the families page of this site.
The government refers to the 5 hour strategy as the "PE and Sport Strategy for Young People" (PESSYP) for more information about this strategy along with a description of roles and responsibilities please click on the PESSYP tab the left.
